Distinguished Alumni:
My name is Shane Gilchrist and I am the new Corresponding Secretary for Beta Psi. I am proud to report that this has proved to be an exciting semester on the “Top of the Hill” with a lot of positive work under-way along with some commendable achievements by some of the active brothers.
Having already had a strong recruiting effort last fall, we are happy to report that we will be initiating twelve new brothers at the end of the Spring semester to add to our rapidly growing active roster. The chapter has been remarkably active on campus this semester having just wrapped up Greek Games and our annual ‘Beta Bowl’ philanthropy benefiting a local homeless shelter, where Sigma Kappa became this year’s winner. Moreover, Beta Psi also took home 1st place in two sorority philanthropies this spring for both Alpha Phi and Alpha Omicron Pi. We’d also like to like to congratulate Danielle Vincent of Kappa Kappa Gamma as our newest sweetheart! A week later, the ladies of Kappa Kappa Gamma marched to the house as a tradition to congratulate brother David Messerly as he was announced as their new “Keyman”/Sweetheart. Earlier this year, the ladies of Alpha Omicron Pi announced me as their sweetheart as well.

On the General Fraternity (Nationals) front, the chapter is working hard with the advisory team to meet and exceed all expectations. We have spent a lot of our efforts on our scholarship in to improve our standing nationally, as well as with recruitment and new member education. Beta Psi sent 7 undergrads to this year’s Keystone Leadership Academy and plan to participate in more of the Beta General Fraternity’s similar programs later in the year. For more information about the annual Keystone Conference, click here. We recently had a positive and productive visit from our leadership consultant where we received a very favorable report. Our executive team, headed by chapter president Frank Stancampiano, is hoping to continue this positive momentum to position Beta Psi for national recognition by winning a few awards at the General Convention in Chicago this summer. Among our recent grads, Ken Donald and Nick Rubenstein were both accepted into Graduate School in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Medical School of WVU respectively, and will still remain engaged as advisers to our chapter. Morgan Leach graduated Cum Laude from the Journalism school and will next be attending Law School. We would also like to congratulate Andrew Boumnaia, Erick Umana, and Justin Williams for their graduation this spring.
Lastly, renovations to the house should be coming shortly. In preparation, the actives have already begun sprucing up the front yard / landscaping by laying new mulch, planting shrubs, and adding new sand to the volleyball court. Our hope is to keep it the grounds through the summer and bring it back to pristine condition in preparation for fall rush.
The standouts in West Virginia University’s Greek community were honored at the 26th-annual Greek Awards Banquet on Wednesday at the Erickson Alumni Association. The Beta Psi chapter was awarded “Most Improved Fraternity 2011-2012”. With this award, the chapter will continue to strive to keep this momentum high.
On behalf of the chapter, we hope that this update is well received by the alumni and we are looking forward to hosting those that will be in town for the 7th Annual Alumni Tournament that will be taking place this Saturday.
